Rauther is a planet in the Rautherion system, near the center of Federation space. It was the third planet to be purchased outright, not by a government, as had been the case with the prior two, but by a corporation . It is wholly-owned by Rauther Power Industries, Inc, which maintains both their primary research labs and main offices here. Rauther is also home to a small fleet of unmanned ships which mine Rautherion Prime for gas. The share price for Rauther Power Industries is on constant display via holographic projection into the atmosphere, a testament to the planet's corporate nature.

As a modern, industrialized planet, Rauther provides many services, most notably its Outfitter, which offers rare equipment and cutting edge Rauther Power Industries technology. A Mission BBS and Trade Center are naturally also available.

Rauther is home to many rare upgrades that are difficult to find. The Hellhound Missile Launcher, a powerful weapon considered by many to be the most efficient and effective civilian launcher available, is only sold on Rauther. Other rare weapons and upgrades include the Light Cannon, Gravimetric Missile Launcher, and Vectored Thrust. Somewhat less rare, but still useful and notable is the Port & Polish
