Viking is a planet in the Tichel system. Controlled by the Federation, but also home to Olaf Greyshoulders, it offers all port services, including a bar, mission BBS, trade center, both Federation and pirate shipyards, outfitters, and ship recharge.

DescriptionEdit

Viking has long been one of the key resources supplying the war machine of the Federation; it's main city is home to Hal Corp, a highly successful Federation-owned company. Extensive reserves of iron, aluminum, and other important metals have shaped the planet. Once covered in greenery, it has long since become a dark, polluted world almost exclusively focused upon mining and shipping the raw materials to the Federation. In return, the Federation keeps a close eye on Viking's system ensuring that their source of materials is safe from predation.

Quite surprisingly for a planet so vital to the Federation Navy, Viking is the unlikely home to perhaps the biggest gathering of pirates within Federation borders. It is the presence of Olaf Greyshoulders and the Association of Free Traders that attracts such a collection of maverick shipwrights, technicians, and crew to this place under the nose of the authorities. Extensive facilities exist for the modification of existing vessels. Whether you are just looking for a couple of special outfits for your ship, or looking for a completely reworked model, Viking is a great place to access pirate technology without having to roam to the edges of known space to find it.

Port ServicesEdit

Due to both its Federation and Association ties, Viking is able to offer a truly unique and useful array of services, including both ships and outfits that are not only several cuts above the normal civilian grade, but are also surprisingly legal. Of course, there's certainly a black market here as well, but there are plenty of useful upgrades and modified ships to interest any spacer.

ShipyardEdit

Due to the presence of Olaf Greyshoulders, Viking offers the unique opportunity (within the Federation at least) of purchasing the range of pirate vessels as well as standard Federation ships. While many of the pirate ships contain illegal systems, they are all available without those pesky licenses required by the Federation. Federation shipyards on Viking are limited to civilian offerings for the most part, with regular supplies of shuttles and Terrapins, as well as Vipers and Asteroid Miners.

OutfitterEdit

Like the shipyards, the outfitters on Viking offer a wide variety of extra-legal equipment provided by the strong presence of pirates on the planet.

Trade CenterEdit

The trade center on Viking is geared to large shipments of mined ore being picked up, but a smaller section does handle the imports demanded by the population.
